Alaska had the highest ever recorded risk of infection in the 1950ies, resulting in a prevalence of infection of about 90% at age 15 years.

In such an environment, it is not surprising that differences between the sexes as seen in other populations disappear. This makes it an ideal setting to study differences in the risk of tuberculosis between males and females.
