Using the same approach to assess consistency in reporting, it is apparent that the notification system in some western European countries was very poor when this survey was conducted. It is simply not possible that tuberculosis case incidence goes up by 40% or dropts by 60% from one year to the next.

To allow meaningful interpretation of the epidemiologic situation of tuberculosis, the following examples are thus taken from countries with fairly good notification systems only.
