Tuberculin surveys conducted before the HIV epidemic had a measurable impact on the tuberculosis situation, were analyzed at WHO.  Only surveys that were methodologically sound and reasonably representative for the population in which they were conducted were included in the analysis.

The figure shows the estimated annual risk of infection in a range of low- and middle-income countries.   It varies from less than 0.5% up to close to 4%.
