Isoniazid was the first anti-tuberculosis drug ever developed.  It was synthesized at the German University of Prague by two chemists without the recognition of its anti-tuberculosis properties.

The high efficacy of isoniazid was recognized only in 1952 when three pharmaceutical companies independently again synthesized the compound.
