The early (two-day) bactericidal activity was investigated for single drugs and various drug combinations by daily counting the number of colony-forming units in sputum of tuberculosis patients. Isoniazid had by far the most early bactericidal activity among all drugs and even a five-drug combination was not more bactericidal than isoniazid alone.
