In the United Kingdom, BCG was given to adolescents and protection against tuberculosis observed in young adulthood. It is the only well-designed trial where BCG gave high protection against tuberculosis in adults (around 80 per cent). In this trial protection lasted for over 10 years and then dropped off rapidly.
