What is the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union)?

The Union is a non-profit, non-governmental voluntary organization, founded in 1920.  Its members, organizations and individuals throughout the world are dedicated to the prevention and control of tuberculosis and lung disease, to disseminating information about the hazards of smoking and to the promotion of overall community health.

The main activities of The Union are:

Technical support:

  to support technical and material support to efforts designed to control tuberculosis and other lung disease in developing countries

Research:

  to conduct operational and applied research, cooperative international studies and trials through the scientific sections of the Union and through technical assistance of national programs

Education:

  to collect and disseminate knowledge on all aspects of tuberculosis and lung disease to health care professionals, decision-makers and the general public
This site was developed by the Tuberculosis Department of the Secretariat of The Union.  It provides health care professionals with information on tuberculosis, offers them assistance in enhancing their skills and knowledge about tuberculosis, and provides documentation for oral presentations on current issues in tuberculosis control.
